Therapeutic Feeding Update

Millions of Sudanese are currently living in famine conditions. This results in what is termed “severe wasting” where a person deprived of nourishment for so long can no longer eat regular food and continues to “waste away” until dying of starvation.

For the Christian refugees fleeing to the comparative safety of the Nuba mountains, many arrive in this “severe wasting” condition— especially children.

Last year, we decided to do something about it, and in November, Persecution Project-supported hospitals at Gigaiba and Tujor received their first shipment of special therapeutic food. Our goal was to save 1,000 lives— mostly children under eight years of age.

At the time of publication, our program continues to run strong— saving as many as 1,200 children per month. In fact, we just received another shipment of food (pictured to the right).

With the rainy season upon us, it is imperative that we pre-position as much food as we can so that when roads turn to rivers, we will have enough supplies on hand to run the program until the weather improves.
