Background
On April 15th, 2023, fighting erupted on the streets of Sudan’s capital city, Khartoum, between factions in the military.

The subsequent civil war in Sudan has resulted in more than a million ethnic Nuba people fleeing to their ancestral homeland in Southern Kordofan. However, the area is very remote and has experienced great difficulties in providing for this massive influx of returnees. Many of the displaced arrive after weeks of travel with little to no food and on the edge of starvation.
Since November 2024, we have sponsored an emergency Therapeutic Feeding Program for severely malnourished returnees. This program is based at two regional hospitals and works in conjunction with our other medical outreaches within the Nuba community.
Drs. Martin Zakariah and Alamin, at Gigaiba and Tujor Hospitals respectively, administer Persecution Project’s Therapeutic Feeding Program and send monthly reports of its progress. Children are treated at the hospitals, but also through a series of mobile clinics delivering therapeutic food to regional clinics located near large refugee camps.
Program Status
From November 2024 through May 2025, Persecution Project has treated 9,700 children and we plan to continue the program until at least the end of 2025. We have included several photos of little patients receiving care, which we hope impresses the need but also encourages you to see what God is doing through this program.
Current stocks of therapeutic food will carry the program through the end of July.

The Nuba region is currently in the rainy season, greatly complicating the logistics of transporting and distributing large stocks to our remote hospitals. Moreover, instability in South Sudan has added additional challenges in security and transport.

Supporting Persecution Project’s feeding program involves providing special food, as well as the logistics which go into administering this program.
Nuradin Hamid was brought to Tujor Hospital and received lifesaving treatment for severe malnutrition. He is doing well today.
Kakalli Fadul Mohammed was admitted with edema, skin lesions, and loss of appetite. She responded very well to the therapeutic food and was discharged in good condition after a few weeks.

Amsal Youhana was admitted with severe malnutrition. After treatment, he was monitored for 14 weeks and is now doing well.
Momen Saleh Omar was on the run with his family for several days. He arrived at our hospital malnourished and suffering from pneumonia. He was successfully treated and after several days was discharged.
Kuku Bolis was admitted with severe malnutrition. After receiving treatment, he was discharged in stable and improving condition.
Komi Mahamod was admitted due to vomiting, loss of appetite, and weight loss. After only four days of therapeutic feeding, he improved enough to be discharged.
