Rescue the Perishing

Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, “Behold, we did not know this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?

Prov. 24:11-12a (ESV)

As of this writing, the current war in Sudan (which began on April 15th, 2023) has displaced more than 12 million people— out of an estimated population of 40 million.

A 7-day journey home by river

More than 600,000 of these (mostly Christians) have fled to the relative safety and security of Southern Kordofan State, home to the Nuba mountains. More than 260,000 of these have arrived in just the last 10 weeks!

But many thousands more do not have the financial means or physical ability to escape the violence all around them. Some of them are elderly and frail or have young children who cannot flee.

Moving the vulnerable by air

Sadly, many thousands have already perished in this conflict. And thousands more are in danger of perishing.

Our Response…

Persecution Project is using whatever means available to rescue as many displaced persons as possible— prioritizing women, children, and elderly. We’re chartering buses and lories, planes— even river barges!

We’re moving as fast as possible, because we don’t know how long this window will stay open.

Once people arrive in the Nuba, we work through the local Nuba Church to provide food, emergency shelter and supplies, and medical care.

Starting over from zero

We are also distributing scripture resources to provide encouragement to believers who have lost everything— except their Savior (and His Church!).

Please PRAY for them.

And please PRAY for Persecution Project.

Right now, the window is open. In a few months, regardless of the security situation, the rainy season will severely challenge the movement of people.

Thank you again, for your faithful and active compassion for our brothers and sisters in Sudan.
