I write these lines from Juba, the capital of South Sudan. I just completed a trip to the refugee community of Yida, which is located just south of the Nuba Mountains border. More than 60,000 Nuba have fled to Yida to escape the humanitarian crisis created by the bombing campaign of dictator Omar al-Bashir.
When I arrived in Juba, I received the troubling news that Bashir had once again sent his bombers across the border in an unprovoked attack against South Sudan. I then confirmed that the communities bombed included Jaac – where PPF has worked since 2005.
We have just completed five new wells in Jaac, and the repair of 25 others which were broken from overuse by the growing refugee population.
Now I have to report that the community has been terrorized by attacks from a wicked regime to the North.
Please be in prayer for the people of Jaac, Yida, and all of South Sudan. The South has suspended all peace negotiations with the North, because Bashir wants only the peace that comes through the annihilation of all resistance to his tyrannical regime.
Please also pray for PPF as we seek to address this new crisis in Jaac. It is hard to fight a battle on two fronts, but fight we must. Thank you for standing with us!
